Let's start off our new blog section with some light-heartedness. I will pose a question to everyone. Are we better off now because the only thing our Homeland Security Department will take seriously is a Lite-Brite advertising hoax? Wait I get it, the only reason they made such a fuss about nothing is because they've done such a good job at protecting our borders from terrorists that they have nothing better to do! That must be it! I hope that those of you reading this with an IQ above your shoe size can realize that this is certainly not the case.
First of all kudos to the guys they "caught" distributing "hoax devices" throughout Boston. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time as I saw them discussing hair styles with the media instead of their ludicrous case. I wish I could've seen the reporters stamping their feet and foaming at the mouth in frustration.
Secondly, shame on Turner Broadcasting to caving and ACTUALLY PAYING THE GOVERNMENT MONEY FOR THEIR OWN STUPIDITY!! Shame on the head of Cartoon Network for falling on the sword and resigning FOR NOTHING! He probably didn't even have any idea what was going on with this marketing campaign, but like a good little lemming he went away quietly. Who reported that crap anyway? They're the ones who should be prosecuted for causing a public panic. Am I just talking to myself here? Does anyone else see how completely asinine this is?
Oh my gosh, what if some tourist in New York City leaves their camera or camcorder on a park bench somewhere!? If these "hoax devices" are considered a threat, then practically ANY electrical device could be. Well...I suppose Homeland Security has been looking for something to do lately, they sure aren't trying to come up with effective ways to seal the border or monitor incoming cargo shipments to the U.S. Does everyone feel safe now? Boy, I sure do! If I ever lose my cell phone while visiting Boston I can rest assured that our ever-vigilant Homeland Security Department will find it. But the question is will Homeland Security charge me for "planting a hoax device" or sue the maker of the phone for causing them to spend taxpayer money looking for it!
